On social media, does the art still come first?
Excerpts from the comment section of Rapsody’s post on hip-hop and journalism.
What people said
the music should stay at the forefront. Unfortunately, on social media everything else matters more than the art. Gossip sells, sex sells, we already know this. The audience has a responsibility to stop championing low vibrational sh*t. Myself and other real hip hop journalists have to not fall into the same trap of tryna go viral. The music needs to always be the focal point. It’s all about integrity.
It’s a phase that stayed too long. All that goofy shit started in 2000, should have been played out by 2010, but people held onto that same wack vibe and mentality for another 10+ years. When things don’t evolve, they erode. People just need to get tired of it and start ignoring certain things. Artists would need to stop playing into it in hopes of a bag, when they KNOW it’s wack for real. Most people who play into the goofy shit end up on Vlad and Adam Jumper and them complaining that they got jerked years later anyhow, so… how many times are people going to fall for the same banana. Idk. Maybe I’m wrong tho. That’s just what I SEE. I wouldn’t even have wrote that if it was just a nobody/influencer who has done nothing substantial pointing it out, because a lot of nobodies or “influencers” will point it out just for attention, then turn around and play into the same BS too.
