Is there still room for print in music coverage?

❤️ This is my heart. I co-founded an independent newspaper here in Richmond, VA and it blew up pretty fast because of the need for cultural commentary. We aren’t as consistent as we want, because honestly, we need more help. I never thought running a print newspaper would be so difficult, but it is. Our stories reflect the heart of the artists, creatives, and small business owners. It has the human touch. Insights and deep conversations.

Our paper is the infrastructure that’s missing, but it takes other writers, journalists, photographers, and designers to bring it all together. We’ve always found it a challenge to be “first” reporting, but we don’t rush to social media to publish our stories, we take our time. The instant availability of events and stories, (or content) on social media can be disheartening when we have stories with more depth, that take longer, for us, to publish and release. Newspaper are costly, but they are worth the ownerships they provide. These platforms could disappear, @therichmondseen will not — is my hope. 🗞️

Reading this is timely.

Thank you Rhapsody.

ive been thinking about how print media and art media, music media are all very intertwined as tangible interact-able things that all need 2 be cultivated as we do the art itself and the food we eat—keep practicing and sharing and we will outlive & outcreate the nostalgia cycle
