we gotta keep uplifting and rewarding the music journalism platforms that are doing it right! taking the extra time & steps; putting forth the effort to showcase more than just controversy and hot takes
It’s difficult competing for the audiences attention, when they will always interact more with negative messaging. As someone whose work lives on social media now, I’m constantly finding myself worrying about the algorithm, which will only show my work if people engage with the post. But ppl comment so much more when a post brings up negative emotions in them. I don’t make that type of content. I want to celebrate Hip Hop, not bring it; or the people who created it, down. Which then means that out of the 1.2 million followers, that I’ve worked very hard to gain for many years, only 20k people will see the posts. It’s frustration and discouraging. And so I get how it’s come to this current state. We are all depending on this algorithm and people’s ever shortening attention spans, and the ever growing sea of content. And everything happens so quick on this format. I’ve been wanting to record a review for your album actually. But then I feel like “is it too late now?” Because people move on so quickly now. I don’t have an answer on how this can get better. Too many factors play into this. I can only keep my integrity and continue as I’ve been doing and hope for the best ❤️
